I was watching I Am Dina again recently and again was impressed with Maria Bonnevie's beauty (And I wish I had her body!) Of course in the context of that movie she doesn't really need to have great chemistry with Hans
So today's question(s)
Who is your favourite of Hans' leading ladies? Which actress did you think he had best chemistry with? Who is the prettiest? Who would you like to see him work with again?
Did I ever mention I love that scene where she slaps him?

Maria Bonnevie is my favourite leading actress opposite Hans.
Marie Bonnevie has the best chemistry with Hans so far. Proof - the slapping scenes, the sex scenes. Very smoothly done, flawless. They look comfortable together. I've already spotted flaws with all his other love scenes. Marie Bonnevie and Samantha Morton are the prettiest. They are both exotic looking, very sultry, they both have intense, death-defying stares.
I would love to see Hans co-star with Marie and/or Samantha in the future. Both are such brilliant actresses, they illuminate any film they're in. Of course, the possibility of Hans acting with Samantha is more than likely Zero.
If Time Travel existed, and Clare Danes voluntarily rode the Time Machine back to 1997, Clare would also get my vote equally alongside Marie and Samantha. However, her integrity has degraded to such abyssmal depths that she's drowned all my respect of her.

Agree with you mostly, though I also rather liked Carmen Ejogo
I just didn't like the sex scenes in Dina overmuch - Too jerky
Too short
The behind the scenes footage of I Am Dina showed great chemistry I think they got on really well

This is too funny. I loved the chemistry between Maria and Hans the best, too. I want to see Hans paired with Maria and Carmen, and I also feel like that about Clare Danes.
I thought the kissing sequence in Tube Tales with Carmen was real, I was like, wow, look at that tonguing! They were getting it on for real!
Clare Danes had lots of potential. You said 1997, what film set you off to her?
Also Virgil great thread!

The one I'd love to see again the most is the one that's not possible at all. Charlotte Colman. Loved that chemistry. I think Charlotte is the kind of actress that has chemistry with everyone she works with. She has that wonderful nurturing warmth. Remember her under the table with the little girl in Four Weddings? Listen to me talking in the present tense. Wishful thinking.

I agree that Maria B is the most classically beautiful -- though he's had no shortage in a wide spectrum of beautiful actresses to work with. My opinion is the Samantha Morton is the best of the actresses, but I don't see their personal seperation as meaning they could never work together again, though they seem now to make different choices in that regard (we could theorize why). There was something true to me about the relationship between Eddie and Stella in it's basic estrangement -- it was a good tool of showing the emotional walls Stella had built, her need for control, and her vulnerable moments with Eddie set up an emotional compromise for that character, really kind of exposed her juvenile truth in the light of all her other sexual encounters. But, too gritty, too raw, too realistic in some ways I guess. Not romantic, not about "romantic" chemistry.
I agree on Charlotte Coleman. So sad.
But there are tons of actresses I hope to see him act with, whether opposite, as leading ladies, or otherwise. I loved watching the eye play opposite Joan Allen in "Mists" -- true "play" going on there -- searching, watchful anticipation on his part-- in the moment,... and she's totally there, focused, steady -- my favorite part of that scene. No glazed over, 25th take stuff going on. Whatever take it might have been.
How would you feel if he made a quirky film, with his usual integrity and commitment,... opposite a leading lady that was, well, aesthetically challenged in some way? Think "Harold and Maude" just for example.
Or Gene Wilder in Woody Allen's "Everything you wanted to know about sex but were afraid to ask"
...... that's a joke by the way
Just as a tangent -- watched "Alice's Restaurant" a few times in August, wonder what that would be like -- wandering musician (an old theme on the board) with a comic VO, his loves and losses and friendships, etc etc without ever taking off his hat.

I presume here you are talking about Kelly Mc Donald?
Good point though, about actresses other than the so-called leading actress, because how could I have forgotten Alexandra Maria Lara - she was just fabulous and really conveyed a love for Yury that Keira somehow couldn't manage. I've seen her in a couple of other things now and I think she's an excellent actress.
And allow me to give a nod to Rike Schmidt, another German actress, who plays Acte, Nero's lover and who also seems to 'appreciate what she's got"! What is it about these European women?
We should start a semi-serious script scenario on the 'wandering minstrel' theme

yes, Kelly McDonald-- I guess as the discussion was about leading ladies rather than their characters, that's how I should've referred to her.
Definitely agree on Alexandra Maria Lara, not just incomparison to Keira Knightley but also incomparision to Chaplin the Lean version.
Who wants to start Hans' wandering mintrels massacre -- Shars is back from LA -- it could be fun!

If you build it I will write. But only if you want me to. I don't want to be wasting anybody's Hans-time with my delusions of literary silliness. If they're too silly and annoying, please let me know and I'll stop inflicting my ones and zeros on everybody.

Alexandra Maria Lara - she's a classic beauty, she looks like she stepped out of a Botticelli painting.

Actually, I love Demi Moore. I love almost all actors, actresses, directors, films, etc.
Demi risked her career by taking controversial roles. I'm glad she expressed her political beliefs through films. That way, the films live forever, impacting people every generation, long after the celebrity fades away.

I haven't necessarily loved everything that Demi Moore has done, but I think she's had some worthy performances. I'll be checking the Varietys that are piling up to see what is there, but it will be minimal at this point I suspect.
Anyway -- I think my favorite of her films is "Passion of the Mind" -- she played a writer there too.

Hello there fellow fans! I'm new in here and try to come around when ever I'm not lost in the Kate Winslet forum... But anyway, as you can totally tell from my name and all, i am a HUGE Les Mis fan, and obviously I think Hans has the best chemistry with Claire Danes. The whole Cosette-Marius-love affair is a huge deal to me. Keira Knightley annoys me and Marie Bonnevie scares me (partly because of her character) The second best choice is obviously our lovely Beth Winslet (Kate's sister) from Bodywork....now that was a cute couple!

And the award for least chemistry?
Melanie Thierry, no competition
