Yes, mention is made of that in one of the interviews that appeared around the time of Doctor Zhivago ( that really negative one where tthe interviewer claimed he looked like a refugee from a boy band instead of a Russian revolutionary) It's seen in a few pictures from around that time.
I always assumed, though of course I have no idea really, that it was maybe a gift from the girlfriend of the time

I had noticed the guitar, looks rather nice, whoever bought it.
My parents bought me a silver guitar with a four leaf clover in it on a black chord 'chain' for my birthday.
