I've never actually seen it...I just thought the age difference was kinda funny...but that's sometimes the better way to go, especially with the story of the film(s) anyhow, the Ophelia syndrome

Just remembered the clip, Keira did for this domestic abuse TV campaign. Very disturbing stuff... BTW, this is Elliot Cowan of Lost in Austen fame, right at the beginning and later on.

Hans was slightly shocked.

Where'd you get that from?
Actually, the age difference between Hans and Keira was nothing compared to the age gap between Keira and Sam Neill!
But it's acting, folks. All very choreographed. Apparently they were very protective of Keira - can't help thinking the love scenes might have been more convincing if there had been more spontaneity.

I read just last week, all available articles about film DZ. This was all on the website about the film DZ. The link is also located here. Hans commented that Keira was too young to him first. I think the filming love scenes. He said that if someone is 16 years old, he does not have much experience. Otherwise, they have nice open friendly relations, I think.

Before he dies in the end of the novel Dr Zhivago, Yuri has married again after never finding Tonya. This later marriage is more for companionship.
My impressions of Hans words in the bts extras/interviews for Dr Z was that he was a bit skeptical that a 16 year old could have the experience and maturity to play the role of Laura, but that he was amazed at how beautifully Keira did it - he says something like 'Keira seems to know it! She has a very wise head on young shoulders'. Seemed to me he was intially concerned but ultimately impressed with the casting decision. At least from his words in the interviews.

It seems interesting that the 10 year age difference has come up here in regards to DZ. Is Gemma Arterton not 10 years younger than HM when filming Tess? It is all in the perception. I know that it is because Keira was in her teens at the time. Sam Neill could actually be her father! I thought it was tastefully done though and she did a fabulous job!

I personally see very little wrong with it, but I love his face while he's talking about it in the interview, he's got that crooked little smile of his....He did look a little surprised in the scene itself, I found it on Youtube and really just love the look Zhivago gets on his face when she slides into the water with him, but he's right, it does show a level of romantisism between the two characters
I can see why he was concerned though, the younger they are, the more likely it is the role will overtake them completely, they won't be able to bring it to life and it'll wind up making them just look more and more pathetic....least in my eyes...I'm glad she could pull it off so well and he's probably happy too, considering occassionally the lead actor can be looked down on worse than the co-star if something goes wrong

Yes, this is exactly the thing that I thought. Maybe I have expressed the first bit confusing, but I had this in mind. Writing in another language is sometimes difficult.

Has anyone seen "The Boat That Rocked"? Hungarian release will be on 11th June with Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy. Another role for Mr. Nighy to be an "old rocker fox".

I really wanted to see The Boat That Rocked when it was at the cinema but never got round to it, I can't wait to get it on DVD, Nick Frost is in it as well I think, he's hilarious. On the age thing between Keira and Hans, I don't really see the big issue...I think Hans would have been naturally a bit dubious at first because she was only 16 when they started but blimey they made it work to their advantage I think. Are there any Celia Imrie fans on here? She played Anna (Tonya's mum) in Zhivago. She's just finished doing theatre in London, the comedy show she was in 'After You've Gone' has been axed...I cried when I found out, I know that sounds very sad but there was a reason. I was fortunate enough to meet Celia twice last year and she is quite honestly one of the most lovely people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I wrote her a letter to thank her for her help when I met her and she sent a lovely one back which I was pleasantly surprised with

I've just seen Celia Imrie last evening! In Lucky Break, where she plays Bill Nighy's wife, but it was only a little role. Looking her up on imdb (she has quite an impressive list there), I realized, I had seen her at least in 10 movies. Most memorable for me in Sparkhouse, Daniel Deronda (where she played the mother of another Hans) and Poirot's Taken at the Flood.

I hadn't realised how much Celia had done either until a while ago. In fact the only reason I watched Doctor Zhivago was because I saw her name come up...thank goodness it did!
