We've just had all the movies/television series and miniseries etcabout Elizabeth 1, leading to the inevitable comparisons and "Leave the Old Girl Alone" commentary. Plus, the show which is airs first, or has the highest star power gets all the publicity. It inevitably leads to overload.
Now we get "The Tudors" to look forward to. Has anyone been watching Series One and enjoying it? is it going to be in the "Things we watch for Hans" category. Not only have there been several shows about ole Henry before, 2008 will see "the Other Boleyn Girl" and of course "the Golden Age is still hanging around and will probably be talked about till Oscars time.
Doesn't this always seem to happen, or is it irrelevant? It's called the Tudors but it doesn't look like any of the Tudors except Henry and Elizabeth get to have any exposure. And surely Henry did something for the history of the world except marry six women and try to have sons (Quite a lot in my history books as I recall. Wasn't it also the Renaissance?)
Not to mention all the other historical figures. It's a bit of a cop out to say no-one knows or cares about them. With the state of history education these days, a TV show or movie is the way most people get to hear about these characters from history.
Write a good script, hire good actors and directors and promote the hell out of it like they do for Batman et al and there'd be an audience.
