Thsi promises to be an Olympics like no other. Will any other nation get a look-in? Anyone getting excited about it? Planning to watch a lot? Anyone you're particularly interested in seeing (I'd say rooting for, but nice Aussie girls don't ) or a sport you'll be particularly following? Start the Olympics discussion here.

Anyone you're particularly interested in seeing (I'd say rooting for, but nice Aussie girls don't ) *snort* O RLY? ;D I was watching RAGE last night and they were playing all the official songs of every sporting event in the history of ever. I think the 1980 Moscow Games clip has scarred me for life, even though I love the jaunty 80s tune of 'Moscow Moscow' (which is now an earworm, argh!)!

Thought I would bring this thread back to life rather than create a new one!!
Is anyone catching the Winter Olympics?
I have been quite mesmorized by them - even more so than the summer. Maybe because they are on home soil. But there is just something amazing about watching these athletes zoom down hills with 2 sticks stuck to their feet and ice runs on sleds no thicker than carboard at speeds faster than I drive my car on the highway. They (athletes) are certainly a different breed and I truly admire them for their dedication.
The best is still yet to come with Hockey finals - really the only time I watch hockey to be honest (Jr. Worlds at Christmas and Olympics).
I have banned my 8 year old from watching luge or skeleton though after he watched it with huge eyes and a giant smile on his face while sitting on the edge of his seat and saying "I know it is really dangerous, but that looks like SOOOOO MUCH FUN!" Not what a mother wants to hear! I know he came from my stomach, but I do wonder sometimes who's genes he has with his love of extreme speed - roller coasters, hills at mock speed on his bike, giant tobagganing hills! UGH!!! I do admire him for that though - there is something refreshing about not being afraid to take risks.

I watch only figure skating, it's so beautiful sport, sport and art in one, I often admire their costumes and accompanying music. Today I saw a TV recording compulsory dances, category dance pairs.

Winter Olympics are beautiful and figure skating it's my favorite too. It's more than a beautiful sport. What do you think about the controversial Men's Figure Skating Final? My favorite was Plushenko... anyway. And my favorite and dramatic moments were: Nobunari Oda touched my heart. He is very professional! I loved Johnny Weir! Am I the only person who thinks that he looks like an anime character??? Ooooooo! Just two words: Stéphane Lambiel ;D He he he.

Am I the only person who thinks that he looks like an anime character??? Male category was very controversial. Czech figur skater Michal Březina showed the best performance in the short program. He still has to ninth after the short program because he has "no name", politically unattractive and has a relatively young age. He was eventually tenth in the overall competition. My favorite was a Czech figure skater Tomáš Verner, he is very physically gifted and has a feel for the music. He is too smart to figure skating, unfortunately, a mentally unstable ... Another my favorite was Stéphane Lambiel. This is a ballet dancer on the ice! Finally - I rooted for Evgeny Plushenko, but he came to me, that is he beyond his physical condition.... Evan Lysacek is not nice to me, his ancestors come from the same town where I was born, anyway - he is quite arrogant, and his free ride is boring .... Ooooooo! I think there are many aspects in this the sport that are not very objective. Did you enjoy yesterday's final? I think Tessa Virtue was fantastic. I enjoyed a lot too the couple of Great Britain with Linkin Park's song Today is Female category short program
