Oh, Charles Thingyens is my favourite author (That's the over-zealous Proboards onscenity filter at work there) Doubtless you meant Charles Dic kens Well, I have quite a few bookshelves so just taking the closest one and going for the shelf at eye level cos I can read that from the computer chair, I have An Equal Music - Vickram Seth Tasting Salt - Stephanie Dowrick Bravemouth - Pamela Stephenson The Amateur Marriage - Anne Tyler Across The Nightingale Floor - Lian Hearn The Samurai's Garden - Gail Tsukiyama Kafka by the Shore - Haruki Murakami The Alchemist - Paolo Coelho Into The Wadi - Michele Drouart The Lady and the Unicorn - Tracy Chevalier (Canone Inverso is No 11) I have my books arranged in height tallest to shortest on each shelf. The shelf above has the old leather bound "incomplete" works of Charles Dic-kens that I inherited from my grandfather - I haven't actually read them all - yet.

I did mean di ckens and did not even think of checking it after I pasted it onto here from another board lol ;D
Most of my books are historical novels (mostly tudor period), a lot of straight history books and classics particularly from the 19th century.

Curtis built his reputation on his photography of American Indian tribes. The images are intimate and haunting. The irony is that the rituals that were believed to be the only imagery of its kind and now being revealed to be an elaborately staged misrepresentation... The tribes never intended to let anyone capture their sacred ceremonial rights in any form. Nonetheless, without the imagery there would be nothing to remind us of their nobility and their struggle and I find it inspirational.

Cant wait for the new one The Gormenghast Trilogy is still on my "to read" list too. I loved the Gormenghast tv series. I bought it on dvd a few months ago because after nearly 10 years, I thought it was time to own a copy. That, and I really wanted to watch it again. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is brilliant as Steerpike! I've never heard of the Shardlake books. Will have to look into them.

First of all, his reading tastes are impeccable! I share your tastes, but in my books list does not appear any of them ... Here it goes... 1: The House Without a Key - Earl Derr Biggers 2: The Sapphire Book - Gilbert Sinué 3: The Silver Pigs - Lindsey Davis 4: The Book of the Women- Ana María Shua 5: The Diary of Jack the Ripper 6: History of the Popes - José Apeles Santolaria 7: The House of the Red Slayer - Paul Harding 8: I, Claudius - Robert Graves 9: Frankenstein - Mary Shelley 10: María - Jorge Isaacs This are not my favourite books. I ussually arrange my books by alphabetic order (I must to say that I didn't realize how disordered my bookshelves was until I did this list! hehe!), so it didn't reflex my literary taste. Right now I'm reading Childe Harold's Pilgrimage by Lord Byron... Well, nothing more... Kisses!

This would depend on the shelf you looked at.
I have the shelf that has the want to reads and am currently reading, which include, in no particular order:
1. The Virgin's Lover - Philippa Gregory (reading) 2. The Host - Stephenie Meyer (reading) 3. The Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett 4. The Book of Negroes - Lawrence Hill 5. Water For Elephants - Sara Gruen 6. The Breadwinner - Deborah Ellis 7. The Appeal - John Grisham 8. The Associate - John Grisham 9. Digital Fortress - Dan Brown
I also try to keep up with my son's reading so that we can have discussions and I can answer questions he may have. Hard to do since he is an avid reader, but those reads include...The Percy Jackson Series - Rick Riordan, The 39 Clues Series - Various Authors, Harry Potter, The Alex Rider Collection - Anthony Horowitz.
Then there is the row of Favourites - again in no particular order:
1. The Godfather - Mario Puzo 2. The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini 3. A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseini 4. Angels & Demons - Dan Brown 5. The DaVinci Code - Dan Brown 6. The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown 7. The Bourne Series - Robert Ludlum 8. Tess of the D'Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy 9. The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton 10. McMillan World Atlas and various travel books from places we have visited
I love this thread...I'm looking forward to checking out what others have listed.

Guys, today I found this thread at the forum... I believe it's not a coincidence most of the books on our shelves are historical fiction. This is the Hanstorical Matheson forum ;D
Reading is my passion and I got several shelves at home, but I will make a compendium of the most representative on every subject I like to read.
1.- Poetry: The Captain Verses by Pablo Neruda. 2.- Historical Novel: Mary, called Magdalene, by Margaret George. 3.- Shamanism: The teachings of Don Juan, by Carlos Castaneda. 4.- Creative Writing: Story, by Robert McKee 5.- Short Stories by Jorge Luis Borges. 6.- Novel: The Dalkey Archive, by Flann O'Brien 7.- Esoteric: Tarot: a way of self-knowledge by Karen Hamaker-Zondag 8.- Plays by Moliere. 9.- The celtic dream, by Mario Vargas Llosa. 10.- The Prague cemetery, by Umberto Eco, which I'm reading now ;D
