Well done Gg on keeping everyone up to speed on Christmas Candle promotions. Seems an extraordinary way to promote a movie so thank goodness we have people like you.
I'll certainly keep my ear to the ground on the Aus front.

Your turn UK! Some of the venues do not open the film until Dec, so mess around with dates at the location you are hoping for, if you have difficulty finding a booking ** in the last day or so the UK release was officially moved to Friday Dec 13, though there are some cinemas showing it as a "preview" on Dec 8. myvue.com/latest-movies/info/film/the-christmas-candlecineworld and movie house cinemas do not seem to have picked it up, but don't be too unhappy, they HAVE picked up 300... The DVD release is scheduled for Feb/March of 2014 in North America Trailers running in the US on Lifetime, Hallmark, Up networks.

Press screenings in NY on Monday will bring the national reviews, but they have already begun, from the screenings already happening in regional markets:
"THE CHRISTMAS CANDLE develops into a wonderfully entertaining and incredibly moving movie. Hans Matheson as Reverend David is charming. Also, the lovely Samantha Barks (LES MISÉRABLES) is pleasant and witty as David’s unlikely skeptic ally, Emily Barstow. The rest of the cast, including singing sensation Susan Boyle in her feature film debut, is also memorable in their different roles. The sets, costumes, and production design in THE CHRISTMAS CANDLE make the audience feel as if they are in the late 1800s." movieguide.org

"The message of struggling with one’s faith and opening the heart to new possibilities is a solid one...Credit goes to “The Christmas Candle,” adapted from a Max Lucado book of the same name, for the story having a twist on that simple synopsis. It’s the kind of tale that often has a character who doubts miracles, but in this movie, the nonbeliever is the new reverend who’s just arrived in town in 1890. That’s right: The man doubting his faith in this faith-based movie is the man delivering the sermons. Hans Matheson, a Scottish actor perhaps most familiar from playing Marius in the 1998 Liam Neeson-starring version of “Les Miserables,” is often quite affecting as the Rev. David Richmond...Samantha Barks (Eponine in last year’s “Les Miserables” musical version) plays a skeptic and kindred spirit to the reverend, and their chemistry is solid, but she’s rarely allowed to act as much as she’s forced to react to David’s actions. Rather than the second lead, she feels like a supporting character."
*personal note -- I thought she did a beautiful job, created an accessible, fiesty yet heartfult characterization, and her adorable dimples are perfect for a Christmas movie.

Hope everyone in the Midwest (US) got through okay yesterday!!! IN good news: "Feelgood holiday entry The Christmas Candle grossed $68,700 from a mere five tapers" -- in other words: it opened in five theaters (yes, nationally/globally) and made US$68,700. The momentum has begun, and if it continues, more theaters in the US, UK, AU, and NZ will be added, the run will last until the holiday AND there is more return available for the possibility of global openings and/or DVD release with subtitles in many/more languages. Fingers crossed, prayers uttered, mantras chanted. The press junket in NYC started today! See the author of the book talk about the movie: www.today.com/video/today/53590372

REVIEWS trickling in: www.onenewsnow.com/movie-and-book-reviews/2013/11/18/lucados-christmas-candle-coming-to-big-screen**************************************************** "Also opening strong, on a per-screen basis, was The Christmas Candle, a holiday fable set in a magical English village, a movie that marks the big-screen debuts of both singer Susan Boyle and former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum (it's the first film put out by Echo Light Studios since the former Pennsylvania senator became its CEO in June). Candle took in an estimated $75,600 on five screens, for an average of $15,120. That's a near-tie with the $15,115 averaged by The Best Man Holiday. And close behind was The Book Thief in its second week of limited release. The Holocaust drama earned another estimated $425,000 on 29 screens, averaging $14,655 per venue, for a ten-day total of $569,000. Guess that platform release was the right strategy after all." Box Office totals as of this morning: 1.6million (US $) - that includes the Nov 15 screens. At $2900/screen that may allow for more theaters IF there are screens available, which would be very nice for those in New England and Nevada where there isn't a screen on the state.
