Annie isn’t Jane Eyre 🙂. What I was trying to say was that when it comes to Victorian period dramas, the British public are used to seeing either cosy gothic romances mostly filmed inside a grand old house like Downtown Abbey, or dramas based on popular books everyone has heard of like Jane Eyre. Jericho isn’t a bad name at all. It’s a rather cool name for a town. But it doesn’t sound like the name of a typical Victorian romantic series, which is what it is. The title Jericho would have confused the British public. If the series would have been called, say, Blackwood Manor, it would sound a bit more like a typical mysterious romantic historical drama. The British public would have known what to make of it. But there’s nothing wronh with taking a risk and doing something differently, if that’s what the directors wanted? Because sometimes that works too.

I think Annie’s rejection of Johnny’s proposal could have been portrayed differently. She could have just said she wasn’t ready. It was too soon after the death of her hubby, or too soon for the kids. That would have been soo realistic and understandable. By saying she preferred her freedom, it almost looked as if she was rejecting him completely, after all his kindness. Her accepting Johnny’s proposal straight away and her and her kids moving in with him into the huge Blackwood Estate and being rich overnight, which is the other extreme opposite ending, is sweet, but it’s so cliche and a bit old fashioned nowadays. Even if thays what we anticipate will happen eventually.

I do see what you mean.
Jericho was, historically, the name of one of the shanty towns built in the 1870s to serve the building of the viaduct, that inspired the series. It was actually a different town than the Ribblehead, but perhaps "Batty Wife Hole" wasn't the best of titles, however technically or historically accurate. The shanty towns were generally given provocative or biblical names and when the original pilot was written (Sherlock) it was hoped to be "the wild west of the UK" and focused on the community, rather than promising (or being compared to) Downton Abbey. A risk, yes, but a calculated one. As this was written by and for British television, I suspect they hoped to educate and shed light on the English history the series was based on and inspired by.

Could they just advertise the first series of Jericho again and just show it again on TV and see if the timing is better this time for the show to get noticed and picked up on ratings? (Anything to prompt a second series.)

It would be a bit of a miracle, but not completely unheard of. I suspect it would take a pretty large, persistent fan driven initiative, Steve Thompson would have to be willing and available, as well as the cast.
Could they!? It's more likely they'd point to watching it on one of the other distribution platforms where it's been distributed/sold rights to.

I really like the Acorn TV clip of Jericho on YouTube. It’s 2 mins 36 seconds long and it’s a clip from the beginning of episode 1 where is shows Johnny helping Annie and her get down off the train and helps them with their bags and directs them to the town. I’ve WhatsApped it to a few people and am encouraging them to watch it on amazon prime.

Oh OK I didn’t realize she had her baby 2 years ago. I thought I read that she had her baby in 2019. I know her hubby is also an actor who’s been in period dramas too. He was in Mr and Mrs Selfridge. There’s another YouTube clip of Jessica Raine on Lorraine describing how they filmed Jericho in Yorkshire throughout August 2015 but she was allowed to commute to London every week for a few days to see family. Lorraine Kelly said to Jessica that she must have been about 12 when she had her kids in Jericho because she looked very young to have teenage kids. Jessica said in her background story in Jericho she married at 16 and had her kids soon after which is why.

During the Jericho junket, he did a short interview with country and townhouse about his self care regime. He talked about the experimenting of cooking with coconut oil and using whatever shampoo was in the shower, basically. Country and Townhouse removed the column where his interview was, without archiving it, so we've got a broken link on the website and here. The links are dropping like flies, just now. The interview is buried on a hard drive back at the office, from 2016 when they sent it to us. It'll take some time to retrieve

I clicked on the link above and typed in ‘Hans Matheson Interview’ and then ‘Jericho Interview’ in the search section but his name didn’t come up.

Hans Matheson discussing his beauty regime 😂. I’m a bit surprised. I’m guessing the article must be really interesting and funny and really want to read it now.
