Does anyone else (apart from me) think that Hans would really suit being a cast member/character in Downton Abbey? He's done so many period dramas already.

I’ve just realized that Hugh Bonnenvile, who plays Lord Grantham in Downton Abbey, played his father Andrey Zhivago in Dr Zhivago. There’s only a few scenes of him in the film. He’s on the train with Kamarovsky and little Yuri in some of Yuri’s flashbacks. So he’s defintely had links with Downton Abbey.

It's a pity they never had on any time on set together. Hugh Bonneville went from Notting Hill in 1999 (not too shabby) to Downton and Monuments Men and Paddington. Quite a nice resume and three films currently in post.

It’s a shame they never spent any time together on set. I can see how they might not have as Hugh Bonnenvile is in the flashbacks with Sam Neil and little Yuri. He’s never shown acting alongside big Yuri. I think Downton Abbey must have been amazing for Hugh’s resume/CV and made him a big star overnight as it was the biggest and most popular show on English TV when it was aired. Although Notting Hill was popular too.

I can soo see Hans in Downton Abbey as a Johnny Jackson type character. Coming back to the Crawley Mansion as a relative who’s been banished to Africa for several years after an affair or broken engagement with one of the Crawley sisters.

I’ve heard a 2nd Downton Abbey film is ‘in the works’ already. Xx

They did announce a sequel. I am curious how COVID will affect that possibility.

A sequel is in production and the script is expected to be finished later this year. But yes covid 19 must be delaying a lot of films and tv shows at the moment. Writers can’t work together, and auditions and acting and directing on a set is impossible with all the social distancing which needs to be kept to stay safe at the moment.

I have no idea how in touch Hans agents are with directors like Julian Fellowes. I don’t know if it would be appropriate for them to send them video links or DVD’s of Hans in recent costume dramas like Jericho and see if they’re interested in having him in some of their upcoming costume dramas.
