I am just curious to know if you have a special "gift" for something, or something you're really fond of, like photography, painting, filming, etc... As for me, I love writing. I am writing a novel. I'm trying! Writing has always been a passion for me, and... hopefully I'll be published. Who knows? I know the publishing market is very selective, but... I keep my fingers crossed. But I still have to finish it first.

Go ahead, Marycathy, my fingers also crossed for you ! Yes...I also have few "threads" in my mind, few pages of a love story down in the bottom of a drawer. Hard work. You are young enough to make it complete and meet with success! As Josh Groban says: Don't give up...( I saw on Youtube, that he is also our common favourite ;D)

I'm a writer too. The longest story I ever wrote was 60 pages, but I tend to give up on my stories. Good luck!
I suppose that one of my loves is musical theatre because you have to act but you also have to be able to sing really well. And the two seperated are cool too. That's pretty much me in a nutshell.

Thank you girls. This novel means a lot to me. It's not easy, but really interesting to write. Zita, I'm happy to see you like Josh too! ;D Hehe! Josh gives me the strengh not to give up. Yes, my quote was partly because of my novel. Along with other things. I understand your love for musical theatre Musicgeek. It must be quite difficult to act and sing in the same time! What is your favourite?

Does he give you strength to "believe" too? Love that song. Ooh, that's a tough question. May have to think... I honestly love them both about the same, but acting is so fun all the time, so it has a slight edge.

I beg you girls : if you would be published in English, let me be the honoured one who translates your bestsellers to Hungarian!

I love "Believe" too. ;D Yeah, I would choose acting too. Even if both are great. But acting is kind of similar to writing a novel. It may be strange to say so, but when I'm writing I have to be my characters and to try and feel what they feel. And if you want to make complexe characters you have to act, in a way. Zita, I'm writing my novel in French, and hopefully will be published by a French publishing house, but maybe I will translate it into English myself, it would help me to improve my English. I love English. It's my second passion after writing. Maybe then you could translate it into Hungarian. Anyway, thanks a lot for your support.

I'll be there for you... ;D I also have some experiences in acting and singing, but it was in the ancient ages, long before JC as I remember... Of course, there are common points in acting and writing!

Marycathy I am so happy you've started this thread -- it's so great to know that our membership continues to be an illustrious group of creatives!!! I know you guys are new, so let me brag a bit about who we have on this forum and how proud I am to have you guys join us, not just as having a common interest in one person's creativity, but as a creative yourself! There is a lovely poster, username Sabbs -- she's been very much into the music scene and has some really great stories to tell about the musicians she counts in her circle. I wish Shars was still posting, but she's been very busy touring with her comedy group... she is one of a number of award winners amongst us -- winning an EMMY (yes I mean it) for her work composing for a documentary, back a few years ago. There is a Josh Groban connection there -- Shars and I both attended performance schools and she went to, and I lived with a roommate (and went to school with/work with so many others), whom went to school at Interlochen, where Josh Groban went to school. If you get a performance education, the "world" is often pretty small. We have a number of writers on line, literary and screen. Jeno has shared a few of her short stories with me, once we could get them away from her white-knuckled psyche -- and she has talent. She is also a painter, inspired by the rustic arid beauty she lives in. She was educated as a musician. She's a perfectionist and it shows. You can see some of Virgil's comic creativity in the creative thread. She's one sharp cookie, with a wicked sense of humor. We spent a good bit of our "reunion" (because "union" isn't right - but our first actual meeting, which really felt like a reunion of voices) driving around making up a mock screenplay -- Virg was a travel photographer, lost in the wilderness -- thence the dramedy commensed! Liz has danced a good bit, and is the go-to girl for European set visitation as she's managed to get onto a number of them and meet some really great cast and crew. There use to be an aspiring actress online, who is now in NY studying, I suspect, as she was applying when she got too busy to post -- we got to "witness" her first journey after getting her first principle role as "Helena" in "Midsummer" and I was able to relive my early education through her a little bit, offer what help I could. Karen has left some poetry for us to enjoy, and I can't count the number of talented artists -- sketch in pencil, painters, not to mention STARKILLER and her killer graphics -- who have graced this board. I'm a lucky girl -- I'm a professional creative, started working professionally at 15, was able to get a performance education form grade 8, work in the centers of entertainment, and made my life of it, and have had some lucky breaks. Don't worry I'm not going to put my resume here, but my regular traveling and corresponding "radio silence" can be blamed on my professional life. I don't have to wait tables, never have, so that counts me very lucky indeed. I work with a lot of writers, though the strike has certainly made life interesting... I have done my own periodic writing, (it was part of my education as a performer, although I've dabbled and published, academically, some poems, short-stories) though I too have a bit of the white-knuckle habit myself. Mine isn't perfectionism so much as abject terror. I love working with full-time writers though, count some pretty amazing writers, directors, performers amongst my friends, and have gotten more and more opportunity to as the years go by. Recreationally I love photography, particulary when I travel -- my favorites are the images you can effortlessly capture (weather permitting) in Scotland. I grew up with two musicians; there was never silence... music decorated the walls and filled the sky... when did this become my therapy?...ANYWAY My point is -- PLEASE! share your stories, what you are up to, and know you are part of a community that shares your passions and wants to support them!

I didn't know there were so many talented people in our board! Thank you so much Gg for this account. I see there is a lot of writers, actors, musicians and performers. It's great to have a passion in one's life. I think it's important to have something that really makes you happy and that is motivating. I think I feel sorry for the people who have no passion in their life, who have nothing that really motivates them. I think it was the point of my first message in this thread actually. I wanted to say how a creative side or a passion can be important in life. For me, writing is something that I really need, deep down, to feel good. I think it's important to have something that makes you dream and that makes you beam, you know.

I see it's time to share a favourite work of mine with you.Take a look at the date below, please. Well, at that time I've been listening to the Hard day's night album night and day - this picture is on it's cover.I mean the original one of course. So, Gg - what would John Lennon drink?

Wasn't John Lennon a Brandy Alexander man?? Thanks for sharing that! 1983!
I'm with you MaryCathy -- passion, whether it be creative or for your family, your work, or for a cause, it seems like our time on this earth would be much lesser for lack of it.

My point is -- PLEASE! share your stories, what you are up to, and know you are part of a community that shares your passions and wants to support them! Heh. I just got home from the dentist, so this may be rather rambly! I frequently tell people that mine is not a science/maths brain. I can't wrap my head around most of the sciences to save my life, haha. But creatively? Bring it on! So what do I do? Well. I write - I've been published with historical academic articles in various historical journals. I also write short stories which have been published and I'm working on my 3rd novel right at the moment. I also edit - I've done a lot of editing work and I'm pretty good at it, if I do say so myself! I costume. I make, or rather, made, before my injuries got the better of me, historical recreations of gowns from the 12th century and 15th century. I tried my hand at shoes - once. Not doing that again! I usually research to the nth degree what I'm going to make and then I set myself to the task of recreating it from notes, pictures of sculptures or paintings from the time. I've made clothing from the Maciejowski Bible which I'm quite pleased with and my all time favourite is a gown I made from looking at a painting from 1575 France. (There are pics online if you guys want to see. ) I do digital arts, like icons, headers, banners, and the like, as Gg mentioned. That tends to take up a lot of my time because it's something I can do without further agravating my disabilities. I used to manage a punk rock band and still advise in that capacity. I grew up in the local punk music scene, I wrote a fanzine when I was 14 years old and my mum used to manage a band who practised in our house. Ten years later, *I* was the one managing them! Now I host their web page and hang out with them, and when they need someone to do the official stuff, I do that for them. I play the piano and the bass guitar, dabble with the drums and sing, and I've taught people how to read music and play piano. Again, because of the disabilities, most of these instruments I simplly cannot play any more, but I still love music. I live, breathe, sleep music. A world without music, IMO, is a poor world indeed, and I love all kinds of music, not just punk rock. I am currently in love with a Bulgarian band, Irfan and the wonderful band Within Temptation. I took film studies and film making at university; along with archaelogy and art history. I'm also into cooking - my father is a Cordon Bleu chef and my grandmother was the head chef for a country hospital, so it's in the genes. And I also dabble in languages, I speak English and French fluently, Italian moderately, Latin okayish and Russian really badly. Nowadays, I live by myself with a ton of electronics, an old and cranky cat and my book, music and dvd collection and write, read, listen to music and research.

Well guys - I'm out of words. So much talent in one personality like Star, Gg, Virgil, Musicgeek, Marycathy and all the others you've mentioned.I'm really impressed. I must read over the earlier posts to learn more about you/them. As for me in the last 15 years family means the No1 passion. It's not a sacrifice, because each of my 3 children is a talented one. My older son (15) plays on guitar and draws beautifully. His English is maybe better than mine. My daughter (9) studies painting and sings in a choir. The smaller boy (7) is also a painter and plays the flute - I'm not sure it's his way, he's got a maths brain. Time will tell...They all learn English of course. There must be music and any kind of animal around me, now we've got two adorable dogs. So when it comes about creativity I can mainly talk about my past.As children grow up I should hopefully have more time for my other passions. HMO Forum seems to be my newest one. Anyway I'm glad and feel honoured for getting in connection with all of you. Hey Star - we are on the same level in Russian...
