Wuthering heights was one of my favourite novels and I've long thought Hans would be ideal for the role of Heathcliff. I'm sure I've mentioned it numerous times. When I heard they were planning a remake, I was just a tad hopeful...... I haven't heard who will be Heathcliff but now that they have cast Natalie Portman as Cathy, I've lost interest in the whole idea. Discuss

As mentioned elsewhere, there's a movie being made, directed by John Maybury. Natalie Portman has pulled out but it has been announced that the part of Heathcliff will be played by Michael Fassbender. no news yet as far as I know as to who will play Cathy. But there is also a version being made for TV directed by none other than Coly Giedroyc of "Stella" and "Virgin Queen"fame. Heathclif will be played by Tom Hardy who was also in "Virgin Queen". So it looks like I might as well give up my hopes of seeing Hans as Heathcliff. I guess he was busy with "Tess" - I like to think that's the only reason he didn't get the gig

I heard of that movie with Tom Hardy as Heath. Can you tell me when it'll be showing? I love the book and I watched a few movies but many of them were too short. Then I bought a version made for italian tv with 6 hours but the story wasn't like the book. I was very dissapointed...
Now I hope the new version is more like the book!

Wuthering Heights aired in the US just after TESS. I'm not sure when it will be airing in Europe/UK. I thought Ralph Fiennes captured the tortured character a bit better. I liked what the actress did with Cathy. Who's name I forget.
Another Wuthering Heights is currently in pre-production in England, with Michael Fassbender ("300") as Heathcliff.

I'm still very much looking forward to seeing this and now I've got the opportunity to see two versions of it.
The first is the tv version that stars Tom Hardy as Heathcliff and Charlotte Riley as Catherine Earnshaw. This will air in the UK this December.
The second is a movie that stars Ed Westwick as Heathcliff and Gemma Arterton as Catherine. This version is directed by Peter Webber and will be on the big screens next year.
I've never read the Wuthering Heights book or seen any previous adaptation of it, so this will be a fairly new experience for me. I won't known how accurate either version is to the book, and I won't read that until I've seen both adaptations mentioned above.
I must admit though, it would have been great to have seen Hans cast as Heathcliff in the film version. I'd love to see him & Gemma work together again after watching Tess! (But then there is now Clash)

The version with Tom Hardy is a television miniseries directed by Coky Giedroyc of Stella Does Tricks and Virgin Queen fame www.imdb.com/title/tt1238834/It has already screened in the US on Masterpiece Theatre - right after Tess I believe - that's the week after, not hours after. It's due, I think, on ITV towards the end of the year. www.imdb.com/title/tt1181614/The movie version, the one with Gemma Arterton, hasn't even started filming yet. There have already been a lot of changes to the cast and directors etc with this production so - you never know! They have only announce two cast so far. This production apparently is making much of the youth of their leads so I guess they will only do the first half of the story. The novel deals with the Heathcliff and Cathy story and goes onto the next generation - Cathy's daughter Catherine, so Heathcliff has to be able to play a range of over twenty years. I think HAns already showed he can do that in Doctor Zhivago.

This is good! I've just finished watching this version of Wuthering Heights & I really enjoyed it. I almost feel guilty about watching it on youtube instead of waiting until it is on the tv. I could definately watch this again and again!
