New composer for Bathory Boswell takes over "Bathory" Jan 11, 2007, 3:34AM
Composer Simon Boswell will provide the music for "Bathory".
By Mikael Carlsson
UK composer Simon Boswell has taken over scoring duties on ”Bathory”, the pan-European production about the ”greatest murderess in the history of mankind”, Countess Elizabeth Bathory. The film, which is directed by Czech veteran filmmaker Juraj Jakubisko, was originally on composer Mark Thomas’ schedule, but changes in the production schedule forced him to withdraw from the project. 50-year old Simon Boswell, who is represented by Hot-House Music, has recently scored the Norwegian animated film ”Free Jimmy”. He is best known for his scores to ”Hackers”, ”Shallow Grave” and ”A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. ”Bathory” is being shot in Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic and stars Anna Friel as Countess Bathory, Hans Matheson as Caravaggio and Franco Nero as King Mathias. I guess that means they're running behind schedule - and who knows what that means.

Really! I quite like his composing, so that sounds promising. Tho' post-prod being set back a bit is probably just to accomodate the change in score and editing it into the film. (I don't miss the days of film editing *at all*.)

No release dates for the UK, US and Australia yet? Maybe we'll all get it first?
One can hope!

I don't think it will be shown in the Netherlands, either. I think that I'll have to do with a broadcast on BBC in a few years Unless this project will be just as 'popular' as The Mists and Dr. Zhivago, which were also shown on Dutch tv. But then again those were mini-series, I don't think Bathory is, right?
