Frederick is a Mallory... The modern equivalent of a drag queen... He is in a homosexual relationship with the thrifts medical supplier and wears a dress... And it is his lover that holds Fredrick's hand in the final scene (to avoid spoiling it).... The character is gay. A transvestite is a man who dresses in women's clothing for sexual satisfaction, but fancies girls.

I did mention that I lived in The Village, right?! Don't be weirded out by an actor playing a gay character. The list of actors is long and glorious! Johnny Depp, Ioan Grufford, Tom Hanks, Phillip Seymour Haufman, Antonio Banderas, Jude Law, Robert Downey Jr,... He's got very good company!

I'm impressed how much you know. Thank you for making this clear! Hans plays Fredrick with intelligence and sympathy. And that's why we love him.

Have you tried downloading the free VLC region free DVD player -- watch any DVD you want on your computer!?

No. But that's only because the disk drive on my laptop is (currently) broken, the VLC download would be the perfect solution for the future though!

I ordered it from Amazon Cat, it is a pain that it's only available in region 1.

Yay I finally received the boxset this morning and have just finished watching Hans' episode now. Oh the poor fella! That was really difficult to watch, I felt so sorry for him.

I agree Laura...my heart really did go out to Hans' character. He played him very well also with compasion and honesty.

Laura, it's good that you have got to see this. From memory I can only remember little bits of Han's episode, but I do remember that it was emotionally moving.

He really did, and the whole thing when he was talking about when he was twelve and he had nothing else. I found myself welling up. Thanks Cat, I've seen nearly everything of his now

Did anyone else think, that in make-up they clearly must have plucked Hans' eyebrows for this? Most noticeable in his first scenes, when he must pass for a woman. And during his later scenes, I always thought that he looked slightly different. There's no way to cover up those strong and expressive eyebrows Hans is blessed with (or is there?).
