Can it really be true that there is no Mists thread -- or am I just blind? SO, fell alseep to -- take a wild guess -- and it still just pisses me off (isn't that pretty) that some lovely artist took all this time to paint, what looks like from the peak we get, a pretty elaborate, yet delicate, tatoo all over Mordred's chest in the final battle seen and you barely get to appreciate it. d**nit.

Strangely, it does seem to be the case.
As most of you know, it's not my favourite in the Hans repertoire but there was a time when most of our visitors had it as a favourite, if not the role where they "discovered" Hans.
So true about the tattoo, but that's true of movie making in general isn't it? So much time, money and attention to detail devoted to things that you hardly see, little details in the background, huge sets built for what turns out to be moments in the final product. And that's without going into the amount of footage filed that never makes it into the final cut.
But... Hans as a baddie - a misunderstood-really a nice guy-type of baddie.
Is there no love for Mordred anymore? Or is it just you and me again Gigi?

It's the quality of the company not the quantity my friend!!! It's true about film making, but I can still be frustrated. That's what I love about his baddie protrayals -- he chooses moral ambiguity over two-dimensionality. or maybe I just like damaged men...

I absolutely LOVE Mists of Avalon! Hans, of course, is excellent in it but I also love the film for what it is as well.
The "I drink to death and dishonor" scene is so intense, his acting absolutely superb!

I saw this just the other day, for the first time. The movie itself wasn't half bad - better than Merlin for an Avalon flick - but I did find the acting a little distracting, at times. I don't even know why ... it was just a little strange. Perhaps it was the direction, which was at fault.
Entertaining enough, in all.

This is absolutely hilarious. Currently I am doing a course on Arthurian sources and texts at the University, and our teacher is the leading Arthurian expert of the Netherlands. Now the subject is fairly easy, it's just a lot of reading, sometimes in difficult language. But now at the end of the course we have to write a comparative analysis on a contemporary Arthurian novel - comparing it with the late medieval and early modern texts. I'm using Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon, ofcourse. I mean, that's where everything started (my fascination with history, mythology, Celtic mysticism and ofcourse Hans)
Naturally I can't help myself and pay way too much attention to the character Mordred in my paper *lol* And since we can use pictures, I'm actually adding a screencap from the mini-series to each subject I'm addressing.
So before I knew it, Hans' picture was in my research report ;D

How cool to work Hans into yor research report! Actually, just a heads up to US fans that Mists of Avalon will be screening on TNT this Sunday 30th December. I'm assuming, all in one hit, as if a movie. OK it's 9.30 am but it's Sunday, right? Too cold to do anything but veg in front of the TV. Ah, am so looking forward to going away next week and being cold. Yesterday was 44 degrees (that's celsius, folks) and over 40 three days in a row is stretching the friendship a bit. Off to the beach for me

Well, it's 11:37 am, and -4° C outside. A little bit snowing - really better near the fireplace. Come and enjoy the weather here in Hungary!
I wonder if our satellite receiver would be able to find TNT. I'd really like to watch Avalon. I think I'd have to wait for a long time to see Hans' films on one of the Hungarian channels. Maybe "Half-light" was the only could have seen on RTL Klub about 7 weeks ago. There isn't a large assortment either of his DVDs. No wonder that he is not a well-known actor here in Hungary. But I feel that Bathory will cause a change - though it's almost nothing you can read or hear about the production.

Brrrr! Zita, you probably feel you don't get much Hans news or opportunity in Hungary but I rather feel it's the same everywhere. It certainly is here in Australia. Only news we ever get is here online. Our little secret Mists seems to be frequently available on Ebay, really the best way to acquire your goodies - they even have a Russian version of Canone Inverso there at the moment.
