Hans would have been 24 when they filmed Mists but he's always looked, played young. And his 'mother' would have been a young mother - didn't they have children in their mid teens back then?
I think it's definitely implied that Arthur and Lancelot have a relationship that goes beyond mere loyal subject and master, though whether it is consumated is not stated.

I think the book does imply that Lancelot is in love with Arthur... fictional characters can be fluid that way!
But as to the age issue -- in the book (and I know, the mini-series takes some liberties--but hey they do need some level of name recognition where the lead is concerned) the Morgaine character was meant to "couple" at the time of her first period -- about 11. Julianna is only two years off from that age difference from Hans... and they did try to through in some grey hairs, but, you know.

They didn't seem to make a big effort to 'age' the characters over the time span of the series. But isn't the point that they are somewhat mystical, and wouldn't age like normal people anyway?

I can see how the age wouldn't really be an issue but I guess it just throws me off occassionally....I can see the Avalon magic thing but at the same time, she is definitely NOT 11 when she went through the thing with Arthur, and neither is he but...yeah they didn't age them that well, Arthur and Lancelot were the only ones with an age difference from everyone else but Mordred actually looked the same age as Morgainne...so maybe it's just me...

Mists of Avalon is the latest gallery to get a makeover, thanks to Brooke's awesome capture skills www.hansmatheson.org/mists/mistscapsgallery1.htmlThere are also some caps of a short scene with Hans from the behind the scenes feature on the german issue of the DVD. Our grateful thanks as usual. Also, the usual request for notice of broken links, missing pics or dodgy coding. Just the info. no need to copy the whole usual "page not found" bs.

When I first read about that chest tattoo I was absolutely puzzled where exactly you see Mordred shirtless . Because as far as I remember, he always sports multiple layers of clothing. First time I saw the Mists I was all over Lancelot for some unfathomable reason . Nevertheless, had a soft spot for Mordred from the beginning. He's kind of the bad guy you just can't bring yourself to hate. I always thought he had some sort of a physical defect. Most of his clothing made him appear like having a hunchback or something and the left eye was a bit twitchy at times. Might be just me imagining things though... And I think he's lost some of his marbles along the way , which is no wonder considering the person who took care of his upbringing (the wicked aunt) . The scene when he's talking to that auntie is just marvelous IMHO. Sort of shows how cold and feeling-less(?!) and weird Mordred is. HM did a great work with the character . Absolutely stunning!

Last week, this TV movie was in our television. I looked again. Hans was a good young man, time flies. Excellent swordsman as well. Historical costumes suits him.

I know this is an old post, but I only had the chance to watch ''The mists of Avalon'' two days ago. It's available in my language (italian), but every time it was on italian tv, I missed it. So, I finally watched it in english. Fortunately I understood almost everything. I read the book so many years ago and I forgot a lot of things. Considering that, I loved the movie. If you enjoy that atmosphere , it's the right film. Every time I see Hans on screen I realize he's so good at acting. He's versatile and believable in every role. Mordred is a complex character. Maybe he's not the good one, maybe he's not the guy loved by the readers (audience, in this case), but Hans has the ability to make him a positive character. I mean, through his interpretation, we can understand him and love him. Being on his side. I hope I've been clear. Sometimes it's complicated to express myself in another language.
