You were absolutely right about those cucumber sounds. Maybe the strawberries they used were far from ripe. But no, it sounds very artificially. What were they thinking? That in Tess98 Alec bites in the same strawberry Tess has already tasted adds a new meaning to the scene, like a stolen kiss or something.

I agree, those sounds are horrible .. The best version is 08'.

That in Tess98 Alec bites in the same strawberry Tess has already tasted adds a new meaning to the scene, like a stolen kiss or something. Well, actually, I half expected the 08 Alec to do the same, considering how drooly he looked like in that particular scene. The let's-have-some-tea bit came of a surprise. The 98 and 79 Tesses looked pretty unrealistic to me (at least from what's on YT). The 98 one seemed two strong and ... don't know - grown up?! And the 79 was sort of too scared looking one.

I couldn't help but laugh at the strawberry scene in the 98 version, which was terrible, you shouldn't be laughing at a scene like that from a tragic story like that! I found the whole 98 version so annoying. The 79 version was marginally better but still nowhere near as good as the 08 version. Hans' Alec was far more convincing than any of the others I've seen.

Tess is released on DVD in Germany November 26th, 2009. English/German audio, German subtitles. The extras will be The Making Of, the trailer, biographies and a photo gallery. Though I don't expect there to be other pictures than the high resolution pictures virgil already has on her site.

Hans Matheson Interview (BBC Tess of the D'Urbervilles) www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMGGaJ_l5v8I would be pleading: What Hans cry to the heavens in the last part of the interview? It is a sentence that escapes me ... His last sentences is outside the context of the interview ... Namely, it is no sense to me...

It's from the extra on the region 2 DVD, they all said something funny at the end of the interview.
He says: "The thing about my character...is he always screams. Do you agree? No. Does that make any sense? Not really."
Easily my favourite clip of a Hans interview, love his cheeky grin at the end.
