With Britain struggling through what's being described as the worst weather we've had in decades I was wondering what other countries are like at the moment. It was thawing a lot yesterday but this morning has seen a large downfall of snow which is still falling. It's so bad I haven't been able to get to work since last Tuesday, even then it took me about 5 hours to get home because traffic came to a standstill. I want to be somewhere warm

I want to be somewhere warm I live in the Czech Republic. We are accustomed to here on the snow disaster, we need to work and school kind of transport or walk, even if the world is ending, this one takes no account through these things, unfortunately ... We have a lot of snow every year, snow drifts, ice, etc., but life here is normal. I have concerns that when the melting snow that will come flooding like every year. I have other winter like this walks the snowy landscape, a romantic.Perhaps it's understandable, I have bad English.

Well...Canada is suppose to be known as "The Great White North". However, this year has been pretty lacking. Last year at this time I was pretty sick of shovelling and we had huge snowbanks at the end of the driveway. The snowploughs couldn't keep up. We haven't even had the cold that we usually get...today felt like spring - sunny and 5 degrees Celsius and it is suppose to be like that for the next week. We are very unseasonal. Where I grew up in Northernwestern Ontario it was VERY cold... -40's with the wind that would freeze your skin in a matter of minutes. Happy I don't have to deal with that very much anymore. We still get very cold temperatures in the South but they are few and far between. I just hope British Columbia gets some snow and colder weather for the Winter Olympics. I don't think I've ever seen skiing on grass before...could be exciting!!!
I'm with you Laura...I want to go someplace warm, sit in the sun and have an attractive foreign man serve me drinks with an umbrella...sigh! (I am only assuming that you would also want the umbrella and the manservant!)

In my little corner of the UK, the big freeze is starting to disappear. At least I can now walk the streets without having the fear of slipping on ice and falling over! That's a definate win in my books! :-)

Am I allowed to say that here it has been prefect -Cloudless blue skies, a light breeze in the afternoon when you need it. Hot but not TOO hot.
However the forecast for the next few days is hot, as in 40 degrees. Bad, especially if it means more bushfires.
Mmm drinks with umbrella sounds good. I'll settle for a Sapphire and tonic on the patio with a slice of lemon. Served by moi.

Virgil, I bet that heat is sounding good to a couple of these ladies.
I've been in three states since new years -- freezing well below freezing literally in one, unseasonably (oh my god I think it might be armegeddon) warm in the mountains which should be under 6 feet of snow right about now, and glorious sun in the land of sun. Too much almost. I like seasons. Cold and grey makes the sunshine and green all the more wonderful.

All of the snow finally melted here (US) a few days ago. It's been all snowy since before Christmas.

Here (Mexico City) we had days with sun but it's very cold right now. The wind woke me up at 4:30 in the mornig, it was very scary and we have cold and rain now. The north of the country isn't better than here because they have had ice and snow since last year

I know that people, around the world, think that Italy is the place of sun. Well, this is right for the south of country. But where I live (Tuscany) the winter is very cold. Now there's an incredible wind and some snow flakes. (I hope you understand my bad english :/)

Definitely not in the "big freeze" this week. Today is 21 degrees Celsius in the sun. I even got a sunburn yesterday taking the kids to the park.
