Hope this question isn't over the line in terms of getting too personal, but I was just wondering if anyone has heard what music inspires Hans? His favorite bands, type of music... I think you can tell a lot about a person based on what they choose to listen to.

Thus far he has been spotted at the Glastonbury Festival baskstage for ColdPlay and Radiohead. He's quoted Bob Dylan a couple of times and his parents took him to Dylan concerts when he was young. He's also mentioned Van Morrison in at least one interview. He's played Nirvana covers himself. If you listen to his father's cd -- available on cdbaby.com -- if you haven't gotten it -- his fiddle playing there is very folk without being celtic-jiggy. A poster on the other board caught the tail end of a set he did in March, but couldn't identify the cover, although she did know it was a cover. His father played with Davie Spillane and Runrig as well, and his family in general is musically oriented on both sides -- a bard for a grandfather, a cousin who plays both hip-hop and classical flute -- I think it is fair to say music is big.
I don't think the question is necessarily out of line -- afterall I've answered as to whatI know about it. He's talked a lot about how music, both making it and listening to it, has such a huge effect on him. Acting he does for others and music for himself?? perhaps as he describes Yuri in Dr.Z.
The great wish would be to hear what he makes musically himself. Hippyrant is, well, what I think is influenced Dylan, but again, not sure how much of the song he wrote or if it's Rick Warden's song and he's just serving as musician...
Ah the great mysteries...

Pretty sure "Hippy Rant" is Rick's composition or so it says on his website. In one interview where Hans is asked about his music, it is described as "melancholic" and he cites Leonard Cohen as his inspiration. But of course that was a few years back. Then again, how many guys his age have even heard of Leonard Cohen , reknown as much for a poet as a songwriter? In another interview, he mentions being into the great violin players of the early days of recorded music 1920s etc. It's true he constantly references music in interviews etc and apparently used it to "find" his characters. Which of course opens up more questions to ponder.

how could I forget Leonard Cohen??!!! I think that's the most striking of his tastes -- wouldn't you say? Just slowly losing my mind.

Interesting! Awesome about Leonard Cohen. I have one of his CD's and it's ultra cool in a very out-there kind of way. I'm going to definately have to check out Ado Matheson's CD - I've seen his website and have thought about ordering it.

Okay, my copy of Out on the Islands came yesterday. I'm entranced. I love it. It's pure, soothing and seems like really genuine soul sharing. Listening to it, I feel special that someone so soulful has let me in, so to speak, in his life and feelings. Is that crazy?
(I was also manically listening with my ear against the speaker to hear Hans' playing and vocals.)

absolutely not crazy -- I real feel when someone shares music that is this personal, it really is a priviledge to hear. And if you've been to the Hebrides you can really understand the paradoxical complex-simplicity of the love for them. Hard place to live, hard place to leave... like when you KNOW you have to leave home, but you feel everything in you tug to stay, and you know a part of you will always be there, and one day you will return. First time I ever saw my father weep was when he had returned from a visit to Italy and he desribed having to leave Perugia, when spelled correctly, the city where he and my mother would meet when they were dating. I hear that in Ado's music. There's something very recognizable to me in it.

By popular request, the lyrics to "Live for Today" and "Chained to Loving You" are now up on the site. I need to know the writers of CTLY for copyright credit etc so if someone who had the soundtrack has that info, I'd be grateful Also there are a couple of places where I think I'm wrong - please let me know any mistakes. I went to the link you included and couldn't get to any samples of Ado's music. The easiest place to hear his music samples are through www.cdbaby.com or www.adomatheson.comAgain -- if you like what you hear and want a copy yourself, let me know -- we can order it from cdbaby and have it send from me to you if they can't do an international delivery. No worries, we can work something out. Let me know if you need my help.

Many thanks Gg! I already knew the two links that you indicated, I visited through the site www.hansmatheson.org. I would want to confirm the link of this Polish site. Therefore, I did think that below it mentions a species of commentary or a mini-biography of Ado Matheson. ;D
