Get on what? Dare we hope??? I guess I would have to say ex, or "currently non-practicing" musician, but I don't think it's something I'll ever lose...I think I began my training in the womb.

Yay! Sabbs' recording of Mojo arrived at last. Though what with the accents and all, there are still some bits I can't understand. Somehow those two older guys are even creepier in English. "Tickle, tickle" In the best "never rains but it pours" tradition, Mojo will be screened on TV in the UK on January 9th. It's on BBC4 and BBC4 Freeview. Not sure how far the range of those stations is. maybe you Europeans with satellite dishes ill be able to catch it. Meantime, my copy will be making the rounds once I've given it the requisite attention.

During the first one and a half minutes of this film my heart sank: how should I, not a native English speaker, possibly understand these two fast-talking guys with their street-slang? (Later on, the other characters I understood alright) Even repeated viewing didn't much help me with Potts and Sweets. For instance, I first thought, P&S were talking about some "VG", until I realized they meant "Luigi's"! So I ordered Mojo, The Play, a slim volume, 80 pages. What a nice surprise when I found in it most of P&S and Skinny's dialogue, word for word! For me the most gripping part of the film is Silver Johnny's stage entry during the opening credits. Amazing how he captures the audience. The music you hear is not the music the band is playing, but some haunting tune, which works great. Virgil already mentioned the "tickle, tickle" scene. Just when I thought I couldn't stand it any longer, the doorbell rings and releases me, the viewer and Silver Johnny. This is something I didn't understand: the discrepancy between Johnny's stage presence, his confidence in his talent and his insecurity off stage. What do you think? Some other memorable scene is, when Johnny comes out of Ezra's office, and he stands there in his underpants, painfully thin, wants something to eat and Ezra goes: you're not hungry. After all, he had only an apple for dinner! For those interested, an in-depth film review and the film's ad: [a href=" "][/a] [a href=" "][/a]

I got a few days ago a copy of the movie Mojo from Brooke. I looked. I have no 50.years of the last century, much in popularity. I looked for HM. I was interested in this project. I read many reviews praise. I was curious about it. The problem was that I don't understand the power of English words. I don 't want to criticize, but some actors have very poor pronunciation. Or do I just dream? The film had a certain charm of past times. I seemed to like contemporary of Elvis Presley. ;D Hans was very young. Appeared to me as funny, he was startled at times as a hare and pretty uncertain. His singing was good. Just me I can not see why there wasn't a song Chained to loving you? Too bad. I thought also that he is playing more. Never mind. 8-)The main thing is that I saw this movie. Thank you once again for providing a copy of Brooke.

The dialogue in MOJO is in a very strong dialect. Like the low-land Scots accent in STELLA, MOJO has an accent even an English speaker has to be attentive too. MOJO is also full of very quick, razor tongued insults and banter. It's an amazing script in many ways for just that reason, but it does make it hard to really get the first time. It would give just about anyone a challenge to get the first time around Lynette!

I can only again recommend to read the play. Afterwards it's so much easier to follow the dialogue.
In the Film-Maker's Diary Jez Butterworth wrote: "10 November 1996 - We begin Hans' first day with the last shot of the film, Silver Johnny and Baby leaving the Atlantic Yard. Hans has come straight off a night shoot from his previous film, with no sleep." I always wondered which film. As one can not go by the year a film is published as Gg explained in regard to STELLA, I thought I'd go by Hans' hairstyle (I think in Mojo this is the shortest, which we have seen from him) and came up with Bramwell. But I can't remember a night scene in it. Any ideas?
