Love to see how you embed those shards of glass, feathers aetc
Despite the best efforts of the $2 shop and other stores, Halloween fails to excite. Kids have seen it on TV and movies but schools aren't allowed to do anything on the theme, parents are reluctant to let their kids go pimping for sweets and thos ewho do find slim pickings. Noone even came to my door this year.
Here it's all about the Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday each November. It's a horse race. Its part of a spring racing carnival and
Its called "The Horse race That Stops A Nation". Tuesday is a holiday in Melbourne (second biggest city in Australia) itself. Elsewhere, everyone will have a bet or take part in an office sweep. (You put in a couple of bucks, draw the name of a horse and winner gets the proceeds.) Even those who never gamble will have a it on The Cup. People will get dressed up, go to have a special lunch wearing a silly hat. Often there's a fashion parade or prize for hats costumes
Even those at work will drag out the Tv, alter lunch break times and make something special of the occasion.
There's a movie called The Cup just out.

Thanksgiving in the U.S. Gobble gobble (unless you're American Indian...in which case thank you,...and sorry, is probably more appropriate)

The truth is, the Europeans came to America, where the American Indians taught them how to fish and farm, and the Europeans, in return, gave the American Indians influenza. The history did not much improve from there, even to the present day. There was a funny episode on an American television show where all the American Indians threw tomatoes at the white people the week leading up to our Thanksgiving. My neighbor across the way is American Indian, though, and all she did was bring over a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

I was interested in a few years ago a lot about (American-) Indian culture, specifically the history of North America. It's sad how these people live and even sadder is the fact that the main cause of the white people came. I'm not American, so I do not want to assess the current situation of Native Americans and whites. But I feel with these indigenous people.

I'm with you Lynette.
I think in this country we want to forget that the treatment of American Indians represents genocide, and that the fact that there are now so many American Indians who are wildly successfu,l despite our governments oppression, disrespect, prejudice, and indifference, is a triumph of the human spirit. Our holiday should acknowedge that more effectively. Easy for me to say, of course, because my people didn't come to this country until WWII and I am surrounded by A.I. friends who educated me about their cultures in ways my Americam education never bothered to.
My hippie politics aside..., hope everyone who was eating turkey yesterday enjoyed it!

I hope that the situation in this respect will be better, not just for Native Americans, but for all people in the world. Tolerance, love, harmony is highly desirable.

I found some time ago this music from y. 2000, there are only indigenous artists. I apologize, because it is outside the discussion. ;D Whispering Tree: Anishinaabe Stories & Songs music.napster.com/album/songs.htm?albumid=12161804It's pretty interesting music.

I wish all people a Merry Christmas, peace, love and harmony and a successful start to the year 2012 (no fear, the end of the world does not take place). In short, the whole coming year 2012 I wish success for all!
